Can I check out books or course reserve textbooks?

Answer

Books

Yes! The library is currently open and you may come in to check out books! Visit our website for our current hours.

If you are unable to come to campus, we are still offering home delivery service and locker pick-up. Additionally, we are offering library pick-up (we'll hold the book for you at the circulation desk).

Beginning Aug 16, 2021, requests will be processed Monday-Thursday. Requests submitted Monday through Thursday by 10:00am will be available same day in a locker by 2:00pm.  Home delivery requests submitted Monday through Thursday by 10:00am will be processed and shipped by the next day.  Requests made Thursday afternoons and Fri-Sun will be fulfilled on Mondays.  Please allow at least 2 weeks for delivery. Please wait for confirmation email of locker fulfillment. The confirmation email will contain locker number and combination. If you would like to request a different item, or change from item pick-up to home delivery or vice versa, please call the Library at 805-289-6482.

Please read below for specific information on how to request books and what to expect after placing your request.

Home Delivery

To make a request, search for your book title in OneSearch, click on the book title, and look for the "Get It" section on the book's record.  There, click on "Request," select "Home Delivery" from the drop-down menu, then send.

At this point, you will receive a notification that your request was successful; however, this does not indicate that your items has been mailed. You will receive an email receipt once the item has been checked out to your account and will be shipped shortly thereafter. Home delivery requests submitted Monday through Thursday by 10:00am will be processed and shipped by the next day. Requests submitted Thursday afternoons, Fri-Sat0Sun will be processed on Mondays. Please allow at least 2 weeks for delivery.

This video will guide you through the process.

In-Person Pick-up

To make a request, search for your book title in OneSearch, click on the book title, and look for the "Get It" section on the book's record. There, click on "Request," select "VC Main" from the drop-down menu, then send. At this point, you will receive a notification that your request was successful; however, this does not indicate that your book is available for pick-up.

Locker Pick-Up: You will receive two emails once your request has been processed by library staff. The first email will show that the book has been checked out to your account (this email is a receipt and also does not indicate that the item is ready for pick-up). The second email will be sent once the item is available for pick-up from our lockers and will include information on what locker and code to use to retrieve your item.

This video will guide you through the process.

Library Pick-Up: You will receive an email showing the book has been checked out to your account. The book will be held for you at the circulation desk.

Reserves

Reserve textbooks are available for 2-hour check-out in the library. If we have multiple copies of a reserve textbook, they may be available for 2-day check-out with in-person pick-up.

If you are unable to come to campus, please contact our circulation desk at vclibrary@vcccd.edu or 805-289-6482. We can place the reserve material needed in a locker for you to pick up at your convenience. You do not have to go through the campus health screening process in order to access the library lockers.

Watch this video for more information on locker pick-up.

If you need any assistance, please contact our circulation desk at vclibrary@vcccd.edu or 805-289-6482.
